Lolili customers have been actively building their collection of fine art scarves with various designs and colours to complement their eclectic wardrobes. As a result, many have asked me about the best way to store them. So, in continuing this blog series, I bring you Part 2: The Best Way to Store Scarves in a Closet. For basic storage and care tips, refer back to Part 1.

The Best Way to Store Scarves in a Closet

Our closets are as unique as we are. Let your personality be your guide. However, space can be an issue so it is important to be as organized as possible. There are many ways to maximize your scarf storage in your closet, regardless of the size.

1.       Open shelving inside the closet

If you have the space, consider stacking your folded scarves on interior shelving. This method works very well for wraps, shawls and pashminas. You could install a small shelving unit within your closet in an out of the way location that won’t interfere with hanging clothes.

2.       Purchase a scarf hanger

There are so many scarf hangers to choose from on the market. Some have concentric circles which make it easy to slide scarves in and out of.  You can also consider a hanger used for hanging pants. Fold your scarves over the bars and simply hang alongside your other clothing.

3.       Use a normal clothes hanger

For a simple solution, fold your scarves lengthwise in thirds or more and hang them side by side on a wooden or plastic clothes hanger and hang on your closet rod. Always check the hanger for splinters or sharp edges first.

4.       Sliding scarf hangers

This is a great option for smaller spaces. It allows you to hang a row of scarves behind other items and then just slide it out to make your selection. There are many options found on the web with varied mechanisms and price ranges. If you are starting with a new closet organizing system, make sure you build in a custom sliding scarf hanger. You won;t regret it.

5.       Get creative

Install door handles or drawer pulls on the inside wall of your closet at one end or on the back of your door and drape your scarves over the knobs.

6.       Install towel bars inside your closet

You can hang folded scarves over towel racks installed inside the closet. Arrange the bars of different widths so that the scarves can be more visible.

7.       Over the door hanger

If you are very limited in space your can purchase an inexpensive over the door hanger which hangs over the closet door by 2 hooks. Use inside or outside for easy access to your collection.

8.       Think outside the box

Visit your local craft store or source out a wheeled craft storage cart online. Organize your folded scarves into the compartments of the cart and slide it into the closet under the section of shorter hanging items. This handy cart will work for other accessories, too.

In conclusion:

The best way to store your scarves is whatever way works for you…as long as you have a system. I encourage you to explore the internet, your favourite storage or solutions shops, or Etsy for ideas. You may even choose a combination of methods to suit your needs. You will be surprised how easy it is to simplify your collection and make instant scarf selection from your closet a breeze.
